5 COVER LETTER HACKS THAT WILL LAND YOU AN INTERVIEW

CONDUCT RESEARCH

Hiring managers absolutely love candidates that have done their research.

It is important that you research the company’s

-         Values and culture

-         The product they sell and clients they work with

-         The job description and the role you will play in day-to-day operations

Understanding the above should help you to remain concise when writing your cover letter.

SHIFT YOUR MINDSET

If you think that this is now going to become a chore, then it will feel like one!

Before you begin typing think to yourself ‘wow’, I get to connect directly with a hiring manager and explain why I’m the right candidate they’re looking for instead of ‘ not another cover letter’.

DEMONSTRATE ENTHUSIASM

It is important that you show off your personality by maintaining your enthusiastic tone throughout. If you as a candidate demonstrate a positive attitude and eagerness it will give you that slight advantage in contrast to any other candidates. It is important to have the mindset that ‘this job is mine’. Research shows that employees who are viewed as enthusiastic are known to provide exceptional customer service and build great rapports.

PROVIDE EVIDENCE

Evidence is extremely essential if you want to stand out compared to the rest. You should include key metrics which demonstrate your contributions to the current role that you have and EXPLAIN HOW it can be transferable to the role that you are now applying for. Include WHY you would be an asset to the company also. If you have minimal experience, think about any outstanding achievements or projects you have taken part in throughout your academic career.

CALL TO ACTION

Always take the lead by demonstrating confidence, e.g. end the letter with ‘ I look forward to hearing from you.’ This would then allow the reader to know how they can contact you by you providing your number or email address. This will also allow them to further see your dedication and passion.
